TRANSLATION
Wake up, Romanian, from your deadly slumber,
In which barbaric tyrants kept you so long by force!
Now or never is the time for you to have a new fate,
Which should command respect of even your cruel enemies.
Now or never is the time for us to prove to the entire world
That in these arms a Roman blood still flows,
And that in our hearts we proudly keep a name
Triumphant in all battles, the name of Trajan.
Behold, glorious shadows, Mihai, Stephen, Corvin,
That is the Romanian nation, your own great-grandsons,
With weapons in their hands, your fire in their veins,
All shouting, "We want to live in freedom, or else better die!"
Priests carry the cross ahead! The army is all Christian,
Its banner is called freedom and its ideal is sacred,
We'd rather die in battle, and do it in full glory,
Than live again like slaves in our dear old land.
